Course Format

Preparatory courses for the exam are conducted by experienced trainers at training institutes worldwide, which usually last 10 to 20 days. During these classes, students learn the basics of painting, the complete syllabus, and practical hands-on training, including discussing previous exam questions. Afterward, students sit in a 4-day training class held by TWI tutors in the UK, followed by a written and practical exam on the 5th day.

Exam Retake Policy

If you fail the exam, you are given one retest within a year with applicable fees paid. If you fail to reappear, you have to restart the entire course. However, if you pass, you will be certified as a BGAS Painting Inspector Grade 1 or 2, which is valid for 5 years before renewal.

Certification Importance

  1. The BGAS painting inspector certification is not a great certificate. NACE and ICORR are more acceptable to employers now. Even National Grid who own the certification as they inherited it from British Gas do not recognize it any more. TWI have done a very poor job promoting the certificate

    1. While NACE and ICORR certifications are now more widely accepted by employers, it's important to acknowledge that the BGAS painting inspector certification also holds its merits. Although National Grid, who inherited the certification from British Gas, might not recognize it anymore, there are still organizations and industries where the BGAS certification retains its significance. it doesn't negate the fact that BGAS still be a valuable qualification for painting inspectors seeking opportunities in certain sectors. As professionals, it's essential to weigh the benefits and recognition of various certifications to make the best choice for our career paths.
